Angus Comyns builds his canvases the way a street poster gets layered over time: image, text and colour pressed together until the surface hums with noise. This piece draws on his pop-culture vocabulary of screen print and stencil, where a single iconic face is cut loose from its original photograph and dropped into a field of bold lettering, comic-strip speech bubbles and hand-painted texture. The method owes as much to tattoo flash and vintage comics as to classic pop art, and it is built for impact at a glance.

Angus Comyns is a self-taught screen print and stencil artist based in Canberra, originally from Sydney. Working across canvas, board, paper and walls, he layers hand-drawn and photographic imagery with text - quotes, symbols and messages - in bright, saturated colour. His influences run from childhood memories and vintage comics to graffiti, tattoo flash and pop culture, and the results range from dense, carefully built collages to stark single-statement pieces. He works under the motto 'Embrace the Mess', celebrating colour and emotion, and runs ARCade, his studio and shopfront in Canberra.
