Rowdy Warren paints wildflowers the way they actually appear in memory. Half remembered. Half invented. A field of white blooms scattered against a sky that shifts from turquoise to warm sand.

The flowers here are built from flicked and dripped paint. Each blossom holds a bright yellow centre, with petals that seem to burst outward in a single confident gesture. Stems trail downward in loose ribbons of grey and black. Small flashes of orange, pink and ochre punctuate the composition, catching the eye like insects moving through grass.

Warren works in a loose contemporary idiom that owes something to action painting and something to the decorative energy of pop. The surface is alive with splatter and incident. Look closely and you can read the speed of the artist's hand. The way one gesture answers another across the canvas.

At this scale the work becomes immersive. You stand close and the drips read as pure abstraction. Step back and a meadow assembles itself. Daisies, perhaps, or paper flowers caught in a breeze. The background washes from a cool sky blue on the left into a sunlit cream on the right, giving the piece a sense of weather moving across a landscape.

There is joy in this painting. A kind of controlled abandon that only comes from an artist who trusts the medium. Warren lets the paint do what paint wants to do, then shapes it into something recognisable and alive. Wildflowers is a large statement piece suited to a generous wall where its energy can breathe.
