Sarrita King paints the land as if hovering above it. Earth Elements looks down on a stretch of Country where sky meets shore meets water. The upper half hums with cloud and weather, dotted in lavenders, indigos and chalky whites that swirl outward from a luminous centre. A pale shoreline cuts across the middle. Below, the ocean rolls in cool turquoise bands, settling into a large concentric circle near the base.
That circle is the anchor of the work. It reads as a waterhole or a gathering place, the kind of meeting point Sarrita returns to often in her practice. Around it, the water moves in layered ripples, every dot placed to suggest current and tide.
Sarrita grew up in Darwin and learned to read weather the way other children read books. The tropical north gave her storms, heat, and the long sweep of coastline. Her father William King Jungala taught her to see connection between sky, fire, water and earth, and she carries that lesson into every canvas.
The dotting here is patient and varied. Some passages are tight and granular, others loosen into a kind of breathing rhythm. Up close it is texture. Step back and the landscape resolves into something you recognise, a shore seen from a great height, weather pressing down on water.
This is part of her ongoing translation of what she calls the language of the earth. Every ripple and crack is the land speaking. Earth Elements is one quiet sentence in that longer conversation.
