This painting belongs to Sarrita King's Elements series and carries forward a story first told by her father, the artist William King Jungala. He taught his daughters that a fire shared with family and friends offers a warmth felt not only in the body but across generations, the same comfort known by ancestors who gathered around fire thousands of years ago. In this work, layers of red, orange and yellow are built up across the black canvas before fine lines of flame are drawn over the top, capturing both the depth and the living energy of fire as it rises and connects all who sit before it.
Fire holds a central place in Aboriginal culture, as a source of warmth, of gathering, and of stories passed from one generation to the next, much as fire and hearth have long held sacred meaning in cultures across the world. In acquiring this artwork, the owner becomes a custodian of this story, joining a lineage of care that stretches from the artist's family to all who gather in its presence.
Wherever this painting is hung, it carries with it the same invitation Sarrita King's father once extended around his own fire: to pause, to feel its warmth, and to remember that this comfort has been shared by people everywhere, across every generation. In this way, the artwork becomes more than a possession, it becomes a quiet meeting point between the artist's heritage and the home it now enters.
