A garden seen through weather. Flowers reads like a rain shower moving across a bed of blooms, where colour lifts and dissolves in the same breath. Tamara Lalayan works in thick, loaded strokes of oil, building the surface until the paint itself behaves like petals and stems.
Deep cobalt anchors the left side. Slate greys pool behind it, suggesting a treeline or a bank of cloud. Across the centre, palette knife marks stack upward in short vertical dabs. They read as delphiniums, lupins, wildflowers pushing toward the light. Bruised pinks and dusty mauves sit against fresh greens. Small hits of citrus yellow flicker through the middle like sunlight caught on a wet leaf.
The upper band is left airy and pale. That breathing space matters. It gives the flowers somewhere to reach, and it keeps the whole composition from tipping into density. Lalayan lets the white of the ground show through in places, which reads as mist or as the shine on water after rain.
There is no strict horizon. The eye is asked to move through the paint rather than across a landscape. Close up, the marks are almost sculptural. Step back and a meadow assembles itself. That shift is the pleasure of the work.
Flowers belongs to a body of painting that treats the natural world as felt, not described. The mood is contemplative and quietly joyful. It suits a room where you want a window onto softness, a wall that keeps offering something new the longer you sit with it.
